We’ve mentioned the Luxury Link website previously when we blogged about our honeymoon in South Africa. We used Luxury Link to book a nine night hotel package for the Liz McGrath hotel collection and we loved all three of the hotels. As the name implies, it is a website that sells discounted packages for luxury hotels and resorts around the world. Most of the auctions include extras like meals, drinks, or even excursions.
One feature of Luxury Link that we haven’t tried yet but looks promising is the Mystery Auctions. You don’t know the name or exact location of the property, but they provide clues throughout the week, and in most cases it seems like you will have a very good idea of where you will be staying if you win the auction. At any given time, there are typically one or two auctions taking place. Each auction lasts a week and has a bidding increment of $1. Based on feedback from the community forum, it sounds like you need to be prepared to bid at the end of the auction since this is when most of the action happens and each bid within the last five minutes extends the auction by five minutes.
Recent auctions included a 5 night stay for two with a bottle of wine and two meals each day at Su Gologone in Oliena Sardinia for a winning bid of $800. The name and location of this hotel was guessed correctly after the first clue.
Another recent winner was a four night package for six travelers in a villa with pool in Lombok, Indonesia for $1000.
The current auction is for four nights at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico for two people (and two kids under the age of 13 can also be accommodated for no additional cost). The package includes alcohol (even from the mini-bar) and unlimited use of resort facilities & activities, including the Kid’s Club, fitness classes, cooking classes, tequila tastings, and bike tours. I wouldn’t recommend trying the activities in that order because the bike tour might be a little tough after the tequila tasting. The package is valid from August 18th – October 21st and currently sits at $601. The first clue for this auction is that “swimming with dolphins is a popular activity here.” Without much effort, I was able to figure out that the auction is probably for the Hacienda Tres Rios. We typically like to stay at smaller resorts, but I would be very happy to relax here for four nigts, kayak, bike, snorkel and swim with a dolphin.
