We normally don’t buy souvenirs when we go on vacation, but there was no way to get Finnegan through the Montego Bay airport without buying a Usain Bolt shirt. It was $15 well spent because Finnegan will barely take the shirt off and we love hearing him say Usain’s name. It comes out sounding a lot like “Saint Bolt,” a sentiment that many Jamaicans and athletics fans might share.
As much as we appreciate the entire sport of athletics (track & field to many Americans), our love obviously lies with distance running. Perhaps a trip to East Africa might get Finnegan as excited about Paul Tergat or Haile Gebrselassie? If Kenya was our destination, Giraffe Manor would be at the top of my list for a first night in Nairobi. In addition to the giraffes, there are warthogs, bushbuck, dik dik and more than 180 species of birds on the property.
Combing Giraffe Manor with a safari would be a great first trip to East Africa. Sala’s Camp and Sasaab are also part of the Tamimi hotel portfolio and they sound like they could be serious contenders for a safari destination with kids since they accept children at all of their lodges. The cultural trips that are offered through the Sasaab lodge sound fantastic and would be a different experience compared to our South African safari.
I really can’t wait to go back to Africa and give my boys a chance to experience a safari!
